The radio crackled to life, a firefighter telling the air operations manager that the fire had come to within 25 yards of a home. Tanker 66, a 1950's era DC-7 came on station to unload retardant, creating a fire break around several of the threatened houses. Seeing that massive aircraft flying low and fast over the burning forest is an awsome experience.
