A lightning storm passed through the Capay Hills for several hours late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. One of the strikes ignited a wildfire that was spotted around 11:30 P.M. near State Route 16 and County Road 81. Cal Fire officials estimated it had consumed approximately 12 acres by 3 A.M. Several Cal Fire hand crews and bulldozers had been brought in to contain the blaze. It is unknown when the fire will be contained. No structures were threatened as of 3:30 A.M.
